About the Art +
Ancestral Roots Mask is a quilted-style, contemporary textile-collage framed canvas that centers a stylized African mask. Against a patchwork ground of floral fabrics and printed stitch work, a bold black silhouette with red eye motifs sits inside a turquoise border. Stars, crosses, and lightning icons mingle with hand-lettered words like “roots” and “mother earth,” all enclosed by a warm wood-look frame.
This work honors Afro-diaspora memory and Yoruba-derived spiritual traditions, where Orishas such as Shango and Oshun guide, protect, and balance the elements of life. The mask reads not as ornament but as guardian-an emblem of lineage, resilience, and presence. Its quilt/patchwork language echoes household making, a textile archive carried from West Africa across the Caribbean to Suriname, where Afro-Surinamese communities in Paramaribo keep rhythms, colors, and proverbs alive in cloth, ceremony, and everyday art.
Place it where reflection matters: living room, study, entryway, or a gallery wall in the office. It pairs with contemporary, eclectic, bohemian, or modern decor, inviting collectors, educators, and anyone honoring heritage to slow down, read the symbols, and hold space for story.
Framed Canvas print on a cotton-polyester blend canvas with a visible wooden border. Available in multiple sizes. Professionally printed to capture quilted textures and mixed-media detail, then hand-stretched and set into a wood frame-ready to hang. Made to order for thoughtful gifting and mindful, lasting display.
